Computers vs. Typewriters

Watching old movies and TV shows brings up the question of how much difference a few years makes in computer technology (the most cutting edge new computers generally are the ones that appear in the shows). The difference in computers in shows from the early-1990s versus the mid-1990s versus 2000 versus now is striking. The same cannot be said of typewriters TV shows from non-consecutive decades.

Very little changed in typewriter technology over the years. Once it started typing the 26-letters there was little progress to be made. Making them electronic (a bit over a decade before the personal computer) and adding a display screen (in the early era of personal computers) were about the only significant changes.

How's that for geeky?

Those U.S. political scandals

Canadian political blogs just churn out comments about dogs and people's likeness to them. American political blogs break stories on the after work (or during work) activities of D.C. political staff.

The Washingtonienne was all the rage a while back and even landed Jessica Cutler a book deal. Stormie Janzen (yes, that's her real name) is all the rage this week with her cheesecake MySpace profile.

The Wikipedia doctoring war sounds like it's much more substantive given how many high school and college students use it as their primary source for research nowadays. At least when Canada has those tawdry political scandals we have women named Gerda and not Stormie.

And we're back

Avoided an entire season of American football - both college and pro. Readers, if there are any left, should be impressed.

Now for something to write about... or maybe just continue the hiatus.
